Sincerest apologies for having not updated you in a while. This is mostly due to really slow and unreliable internet connections here in SE Asia. Also my camera broke, first in KL (but then it had the decency of fixing itself) and then again in Jakarta (this time un-self-fixable). These are really bad news, I know, but luckily Santa Claus gave me a little contribution so just yesterday I got myself a new camera! Hooray!
So until I get a better connection so I can upload some more photos, let me update you on my recent whereabouts. Last entry was about KL, and after that I went to Singapore for a couple days. Singapore is an island of Westernism in an Asian ocean. Litterally. It IS an island. And a city. And a country. All in one. On the surface it has all the features of a western city; clean streets, a well developed public transport system, big shopping centres with no haggle stores and so on. And I have to say, being the only blonde in an H&M store filled with tiny Asian chicks is a bit of a mindfuck... So, after Singapore I met up with Em and flew to Jakarta, a city populated by 9 million people and famous for its traffic jams. It is quite an intimidating place, even for a rough and experienced backpacker such as myself ( ;) ). In Jakarta Em and I stayed with two Javanese locals Em met through couchsurfing.org. Tammy and Ariya made the stay in Jakarta not just pleasant but much longer than anticipated. Longing fore some beach action I went to Kuta, Bali only to find myself trying to get out of there as soon as possible (yeah so okey I had a feeling that would happen, but one has to figure out for oneself right?). Right now I am quite firmly settled on the chill little island of Gili Trawangan. I am doing my PADI Advanced Open Water Course here, trying to finish it as slowly as possible... I am staying at a dive resort on the beach and I just decided I will stay here for Christmas. So yeah I guess that's it for the moment. Going for a snorkel now. Over and out.
